Using liquid detergent, vinegar and water – the classic, simple method
This is the first method you will try when you spot grass stains on your jeans:
- Allow the grass-stained jeans to soak in a tub of cold water for 30 to 60 minutes. When the water loosens the pigments on the stains, it becomes easy to clean them.
- Take out the jeans from the tub and place them on a flat surface. Now, make a DIY cleaning solution with equal parts of warm water and white vinegar. Pour the solution directly on the grassy stains. Let it settle there for about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Make a paste with detergent powder and water. Apply this paste on the stains, and rub well using a toothbrush, or your fingers. If the stains are too deep, you can also apply an enzymatic cleaner, or non-chlorine bleach solution on the jeans instead of the detergent paste.
- Let the detergent/bleach/enzymatic cleaner sit on the grass stains for about 15 minutes.
- Show the stains under cold water and check if the grass stains have been removed completely. Light and fresh stains would have gone by now. If you find traces of some stubborn stains, you can repeat all the steps mentioned here. Keep rinsing until you notice that the stains have disappeared completely.
- Once you are sure that all the stains have gone completely, you can hang them out to dry thoroughly. Never leave jeans with grass stains to dry in the air dryer. This will cause the stains to penetrate further into the fabric, making it a herculean task to remove the grass stains.
